Ball vs Orange = Over Extension?

前幾天囡兒踮起腳尖在枱邊把橙抓下來,橙在地上滾動滾動,囡兒看到十分高興把橙拿來走到我跟前說”ball”。

Ms angie聽到心裡一沉,16個月大連日常水果也分不清,不用去考幼稚園了。也難怪Abbie,平日Ms ange嫌麻煩很少吃橙,所以沒有特別介紹給Abbie。

若果大家有看過有關幼兒發展的書籍(特別語言發展),你們會留意到幼兒使用語言會有過度伸廷的情況(over extension),即若果你介紹有頭、身體、尾巴和四條腿的動物是狗的話,你的孩子可能將所有差不多大小同樣表徵的動物都叫”汪汪”或”狗”之類。

把”橙”叫”波”,我猜也是同樣的道理。

嫌麻煩的 Ms angie叫 Abbie爸爸幫忙在囡兒面前把橙切開讓她嘗嘗味道,再介紹這水果是什麼名堂。爸爸一邊切橙讓囡兒吃一邊努力地說:「橙、橙、橙」。Abbie只忙著「吃、吃

、吃」。黙不作聲。

最後Ms angie把「波」和「橙」放在Abbie前面,再介紹一遍但這次用英文,當我問道where is the ball or where is the orange,Abbie都可以指出來,即語言理解能力OK。但當我問到what is this? Abbie只會說ball…….而orange說到好似火星說一樣。算吧,又真是好難發音,把「波」和「橙」弄清便好了。
